My best friend and I have gotten into something of a watch- buying arms race; but while he goes for ridiculously expensive Omegas, I’m more into old Seikos. This is my newest one that I got today, it’s a Seiko 6106-8599. It doesn’t have a catchy nickname or a great backstory like my Pogue, and it’s seen some wear, but I think it’s absolutely gorgeous. These watches are still very affordable as well; mine was around $160 and I’ve seen them go cheaper than that.
I now have the trifecta of sunburst-dial, barrel-cased Automatic Seikos... (The far one is dark green) Now I just need a red one to complete the set-
Nothing particularly valuable save for maybe the Yacht Timer, but I’m very proud of my collection!

Nice find, I like that gold ring of hour markers.

Awesome collection! I really like the one that’s real deep set in the middle up top. The black one. What is that?
For what one pricey watch cost, you can have a bunch of excellent and unique examples that are affordable. I bought my first watch a couple weeks ago. Nothing high brow, but the black and gold reminded me of the old John Player Special livery.

I like that Fossil! The black one is an Autodromo Veloce, it was actually my first watch

Alpinists are so cool! I was at the Seiko store in NYC a few weeks ago and I was looking at a couple

I was torn between the new black one or trying to find one of these old ones. I decided to go full watch snop and get the rare one!
lol

I like that. I’ve had a love hate thing with the automatics. Ideally they are perfect for me. IRL I e found that they aren’t as accurate in the ones I’ve tried.

My vintage automatics have caused their fair share of headaches. It’s par for the course, really, you just kind of have to accept that they aren’t going to he perfectly accurate. My Seiko Recraft (the green one) is much newer and very accurate though

I’m currently looking for a vintage Rolex Day-Date, and I can’t find the one I want :(

I have wondered whether my above average motion caused by constantly pushing the wheels of my chair throws the mechanism off. I have looked up automatic mechanisms though, and they do have more variation built into them in general.

Very nice! I love Alpinists and have the standard green one (a beloved souvenir from my first trip to Japan) and one of the controversial blue American limited edition. Tempted by the new cream one but I don’t like the cyclops. Currently wearing a Save the Oceans Turtle on a beach vacation:

That’s an interesting question. I would have thought that moving more or less than average shouldn’t really make much difference for a decent automatic movement if the movements themselves are relatively normal—like, short of being a stunt man repeatedly falling off a building for a movie shoot on the one hand or catatonic on the other. But did you find out anything more helpful?

Only that I should expect more deviation from an automatic movement. But I hold out hope that they improve all the time. Still, much as I love watches, I need to keep it in the Fossil range, not the Citizen range. That means waiting for tech improvements to trickle down over time. I’m patient. I’ll probably always be a real watch guy, not an Apple watch guy.

That makes sense considering it evokes a redlining tach. Very cool. Their Group B has had me drooling for awhile, but it’s too rich for my blood. That Fossil was the first one I ever saw while out that I had to have. I never understood the watch thing until I got that one. It clicked then.

My friend has a G roup B, it's extremely nice looking but too much for me to justify as well

But do you have a watch winder? You should get one if you’re going to have so many automatic watches that you can’t wear all at once

Unfortunately no, I usually just wear one for a few days at a time. You can probably see in the picture which ones are dead haha
